The Secret Garden book cover

For this cover, again keeping things nice and simple, I decided to highlight the key found within the book as this is quite important to the story. Still working in black and white for the moment but I am looking at using just black and another colour for each book cover.

Alice Book Layouts.

Within these layouts I've changed some of the fonts using quite a classic font and a more hand written style. I'm leaning more to using the handwritten fonts as I feel it will appeal more to a younger audience.

Alice Devel.

Here I've tried a few different items on the table having the 'drink me' bottle makes the scene of the book more obvious, therefore having a small Alice in the bottom corner becomes more relevant.

Book Cover with small Alice.

Here I've just added a small Alice to the bottom of the cover as the scene from the book which I'm portraying is where Alice takes a sip from the 'drink me' bottle and shrinks. I think that adding Alice in to the image just highlights this a bit more.

Full Alice cover.

This is a full layout for the Alice book cover, a few layout errors need to be fixed but its getting there design wise. I think the font I used could be developed a bit more and to consider other before finalizing the design. But the simple silhouettes of the images works well, yet I feel this could also could be developed further too.

Alice book cover development.

Here I've changed to using imagery surrounding the theme of 'painting the roses red' using quite a simple form of a rose. I prefer these designs to the previous set but have a feeling that the theme might be a bit lost and not everyone would get the message?!?!

Chosen Book Titles....

These are the book I have selected to redesign the covers for which is an extension to the Alice in Wonderland brief where I am now design a range of puffin books to become part of a series.

Initial Alice book covers...

Here I'm just looking at having the imagery of the maze as the main focus with the subtle hint at the playing card suits. Visually they create more impact when teamed up as a set of 4 mazes, as it creates more of a pattern. However these designs seem to be lacking in colour!
With the covers above I was trying to experiment with a repeating image, but I'm not sure its working that well at this stage.

Logo meeting feedback:

After meeting up with the client it seems they want:
  • modern logo using just type.
  • seasonal colours so that it can change throughout the year. Mainly black to begin with though.
  • to use the tagline 'we wish you music'
  • need the logo to work across all media including banners/business cards/letterheads etc...
  • initial deadline for presentation boards 9th March.
  • Complete deadline 14th May.
This meeting really helped me to understand what it is that they're actually looking for and now that I have a deadline to work to as well. So I'm planning on presenting to them A3 boards showing about 50 different designs for them to choose from.

Colour logos...

These are just some experiments with altering opacity with the colours, I quite like the effect that it creates. However I don't think its very fitting for the fairfax singers logo?!?!
